1.0 Basic Information

1.1 Purpose
The purpose of the project is to construct and develop a web site for pronunciation of Swedish alphabets where together with phonetics it will be possible for the learner or visitor to listen and learn pronunciation of Swedish alphabets through a simple click of the mouse.

1.2 Background

Swedish alphabets do not sound like English alphabets although they look alike. Usually it is not an easy task to learn pronounciation of an alphabet just through phonetics unless you are an expert. Special Swedish alphabets like Ä-ä, Å-å and Ö-ö must be heard in order to pronounce correctly.

1.3 Description of the web site
Currently the web site contains a clickable table of Swedish alphabets which can be used to listen and learn the pronunciation of Swedish alphabets at http://members.tripod.com/~SwedishAlphabet/index.htm.

1.4 Target Groups
Possible target groups may be:
A. Foreigners who are looking for Swedish tutorials.
B. Tourists visiting or planning to visit Sweden.
C. Immigrants living in Sweden.

2.0 Goals

The main goal for the project is to continue the development of Swedish alphabets web site and make it as useful as posseble for the learners.
Another goal of the project is to encourage others to participate in the development of Swedish alphabets web site.

3.0 Plans

3.1 Future Plans
In future more chapters regarding Swedish pronounciation will be added to the Swedish alphabets web site in order to make it more information rich web site.

3.2 Quality Plans
Currently the sound quality is not quite satisfying but it will be improved in future. As far as the quality of the Swedish alphabets web site is concerned, all suggestions and ideas are most welcome.

5.0 Risks and Opportunities

The biggest possible risk in this kind of tutorials is that there is no one who can tell you if you are doing something wrong. Actually a proper place for a person who is planning to learn the language seriously is in presence of a teacher or in a school.
Nevertheless opportunities are even more impressive.

6.0 References

The initial material for the Swedish alphabets web site is taken from the book called "UTTAL" written by Håkan Rosenqvist. He will act as a reference and leave his comments and criticism.

With my best regards, Rajinder.
